Why Carbonza
Carbonza was foundered in 2007 by Darrin Bird with the aim of delivering CO2 emission management and offset solutions for the adventure travel and tourism industry. Carbonza is formed on the principles of; transparent audit process, quality and verification of our products, and proven and supported science.

Darrin has a passion for adventure and travel but was increasingly seeing the evidence of global warming, that his travel was partly contributing to such as coral bleaching on the Great Barrier Reef and receding glaciers in the Andes.

In 2004 Darrin came to the conclusion that the adventure and travel industry has to embrace their responsibility and realize they were on an unsustainable path. Even those with the best sustainable practices, such as the members from IAATO, could not call themselves “sustainable” without taking in to account the CO2 footprint of their business and customers indirect emissions getting to their place of business, Antarctica.

Unfortunately most voluntary offset solutions at the time lacked the reputation, solid science, measurement or viability. And members of IAATO were rightly concerned about engaging these programs even though they appreciated CO2 Footprint responsibility.

Delivering viable CO2 Footprint management is far more than planting a few trees and watching the carbon credits grow.

Now Is the Time
The carbon market today can now deliver the quality assurance needed for business and personal assurance. The quality of audits and carbon credits can now be assured when the standards, guidelines and accreditation are applied from sources such as AGO Greenhouse Friendly and NSW GGAC programs.
There is finally a national carbon credit registry, the NER to ensure the carbon credits are verified independently and only owned by one entity at a time. Internationally the quality footprint follows the guidelines set by the UNFCCC for VERs and at the top are the Gold Standard Carbon Credits.
